Host organisation of the NaziCrimesAtlas
The non-profit association dieKunstBauStelle e. V. was founded in 2014 in Landsberg am Lech by the artist Wolfgang Hauck. Since then the association has supported art, culture, education and youth work through numerous projects. For more than ten years it has concentrated on innovative history projects that involve new media and engage young people actively.
Memorial work in Landsberg
In Landsberg am Lech — referred to by the National Socialists as the „City of Youth" — the traces of their dictatorship remain particularly visible. The town therefore bears a special responsibility for memorial work. Landsberg played a central role at both the beginning and the end of National Socialism: Hitler was held here in 1923–24 in fortress imprisonment, and after the war the War Criminal Prison No. 1 and the Displaced Persons Camp No. 1 were established here.
The association sees its task as initiating, researching and developing new forms of engagement with history, using cultural, media-based and artistic techniques to make history accessible across generations.
